Drawing from discussions at an Oxford workshop, ‘Geographies of “Area”: politics, places and disciplines’, held in January 2015, the essays that follow deal with the different ways that areas have been classified, catalogued and theorized by political geographers. Inevitably, we contributors bear the influences of our own locatedness..
